Betfair decision still private matter

Internet casino players are still wondering what the deal is with Betfair and Tasmania.  According to the Tasmanian Mercury, the local newspaper, secrecy still surrounds Tasmania's decision on whether to license the British Internet gambling company Betfair.

Yesterday, Premier Paul Lennon was in Melbourne meeting members regarding the issue at hand. He met with  racing industry officials to further work on the deal which many Internet gambling enthusiasts already think has been decided.

Speculation heightened that the deal had been done, although an announcement is expected later this week.

Tasmanian Thoroughbred Racing Council chairman Geoff Harper said freedom-of-information requests had been lodged in a last-ditch bid for more information.

Harper said the council was yet to see a business case even though the fact an announcement was due by Friday the 4th of November.
