Casinos ruined in aftermath of hurricane
August 31 As many of our US readers already know, the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coast were completely thrashed and mass destruction and chaos are in full effect in the tattered region. Not only are hundreds of thousands of people without a home, many hundreds are feared dead. From New Orleans to Mobile Alabama, the hurricane left a world of pain and anguish in its path. Among the wreckage are the popular Mississippi and Louisiana casinos. These properties were responsible for bringing in major revenue the their respective states. In general, New Orleans ids a tourism-driven economy, now without electricity or even inhabitants for an unknown amount of time, the casinos will be closed indefinitely. For the most part, the detailed information regarding each casino's damage is still very hazy. What we know about New Orleans is that the Harrah's Casino in Downtown sustained moderate damage. The roof lost a section which created some rain induced flooding. The casino itself is not in a section of town that is submerged in water. The riverboat casino docked just outside of the city limits on the Mississippi River has yet to be assessed and damages are still unknown. Alas, even if the repairs are moderate, there is no one to play there. No electricity, not much of anything. As far as the Mississippi Gulf Coast casinos are concerned they are all almost completely trashed. In fact, the massive Beau Rivage seemed to look in the best condition of them all. The Palace Resort Casino was seen sinking into the Gulf yesterday morning. For sure, the fine people of the widely affected region will build again and move on. As Internet gambling players, we are all touched and saddened by the fact that so many casino workers are out of a job and a home for who knows how long. The clean-up will take time. To the hundreds of thousands of displaced people, we keep you in our thoughts.
